The New Black Identity - the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920's

7:00 pm Mon 4th June 2018 at Cessnock Performing Arts Centre

After World War I, a cultural awakening and a new Black identity emerged from an artistic era centered in the heart of New York. This era was called the Harlem Renaissance developed from Harlem. The Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s and 1930s was the beginning of an “acceptance” of the Black artist, writer and poets in White America.

Dr. Matthew Laing is a historian and political scientist with a PhD from the ANU.

Cessnock Regional Art Gallery

The Two of Us - Frances and Chris Fussel Retrospective exhibition

Wed 23th May - 1st July, 2018 - Opening Sat 26th May at 5:00 pm. at Cessnock Regional Art Gallery, Vincent St., Cessnock

This exhibition showcases their new and not yet exhibited works with some dating back to the early 70's, making it a part retrospective exhibition revealing their changing styles over the years.

Artist Bela Ivanyi will open the exhibition on the 26th May @ 5pm. You are invited to come along and support these much loved artists.

ADFAS Pokolbin 20th Birthday Celebration

with movie 'Life of Brian'

6:30 pm Mon 23rd July 2018 at Cessnock Performing Arts Centre

To celebrate the 20th Birthday of ADFAS Pokolbin, you are invited to a fabulous evening comprising the locally produced movie 'Life of Brian', a skit on the life and times of local identity, and one of Australia's foremost winemakers, Brian McGuigan.

Following the movie, enjoy a glass or two of Hunter Valley wines and a gourmet supper to mark this significant milestone.

ADFAS Pokolbin field trip

Dungog Festival and Sculpture on the Farm

All-day event starts 8:00 am till 6:00 pm Sat 29th Sept 2018

Join ADFAS Pokolbin members and friends for a luxury coach trip from Cessnock CPAC and Maitland Railway Station to Dungog for a guided tour of the Sculpture on the Farm exhibition and morning tea with the host.

Also included is lunch and ticketed entry to 2 gardens as part of the Dungog Garden Ramble. There will be opportunities to visit Dungog by Design and the Dungog Exhibition between other galleries and festival events. Highly recommended is a visit to The James Theatre, The Tin Shed Brewery or simply a leisurely coffee at one of the many delightful cafes.

ADFAS Pokolbin provides its members a yearly program of 8 illustrated arts-related lectures presented by skilled overseas and Australian experts plus excursions and outings in a friendly and sophisticated social setting. 

All lectures will be held at Cessnock Performing Arts Centre, (CPAC) cnr. Vincent St and Aberdare Rd, Cessnock. Evening lectures start promptly at 7:00 pm, followed by supper and Hunter Valley wines.

Visitors are welcome - $30.00 per lecture.
Visiting Members of other societies - FREE
Annual Membership - $180.00 for all 8 lectures.
School and College Students (excluding supper) - FREE
